Location: Lifegate Church, 206 W. Wagner St. Talent, Oregon
We are a new Christian school community to open in the Fall offering full day or half day classes based on the Charlotte Mason model to meet the needs of families for site based schooling or homeschooling enrichment.
Heritage Community School meets 4 days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with the option for homeschoolers to join us mornings or afternoons for a month at a time.
Mornings are quite busy filled with concentrated learning as we explore a comprehensive set of integrated subjects. The day begins with a short Bible reading.

Mornings are quite busy filled with concentrated learning as we explore a comprehensive set of integrated subjects. The day begins with a short Bible reading. This is followed by math using concrete materials The exploration of the world's past and present of great people and events throughout history are brought by living books from knowledgeable authors and their biographies. Children deepen their learning through writing, illustrating, and poetry. Great composers and artists and their works are studied and discussed.
Afternoons are spent with an emphasis in immersive nature study by observation of our surroundings in a nearby community garden, the local neighborhood, and local parks. During the changes of the seasons, we learn about the life cycles of birds, animals, plants, and trees. Gardening, birding, orienteering paired with artistic nature journals
create opportunities for children to appreciate and respect God's world.
At Heritage Community School, our philosophy is centered around the belief that every child is a person made in the image of God. Each one is recognized for their unique strengths and talents with the ability to grow and mature to become a greater person and fulfill their potential.

We see education
as a relational education that goes beyond information and facts where knowledge is interconnected that touches the heart, soul, and mind as inspired and sourced by God. We believe that the child with respect to their personhood, requires living books with ideas to learn that protects and stimulates the desire for knowledge. An atmosphere of learning should be of a high caliber and inspirational which leads to understanding and wisdom to become a caring and compassionate person for others and a caretaker of the natural world.

We look forward to leading this wonderful educational adventure for children to experience a rich feast of liberal arts subjects with God as the center. This unique approach to education truly allows children to grow in knowledge and understanding about the world, each another, and their relationship with God as they grow through new ideas and experiences together.

At Heritage Community School, technology, such as the smart board for internet or tablets takes a back seat. The star to guiding children in their learning are high quality books and teachers to guide. No instruction or testing is taken from a tablet. Children are given the opportunity to be active not passive learners and are better critical thinkers without becoming dependent upon electronic tools.
A Charlotte Mason education is very comprehensive and thus homework is seen to be unnecessary for young children who need time after school to relax, play, and spend time with their family.
Heritage Community School uses the Alveary curriculum which rotates the topics in 3 year cycles. Thus, every year all new materials and books are presented. Skill level in reading and writing, and math are differentiated according to the child's ability.
We are happy to provide informational packets with applications for initial interest upon request.
Enrollment will officially begin in late May occur after completion for Talent zoning approval.
